The capital of Great Britain is London.

Climate of Great Britain
Great Britain is situated on the islands. It is washed by seas from all the sides. That’s why the climate and the nature of Great Britain are very specific.

















It is not very cold in winter and never very hot in summer. There is no ice on the lakes and rivers in winter. It seldom snows. It rains very often in all the seasons. The weather changes very often.

Elizabeth 2 is the Queen of Great Britain.
She was born in Windsor on 21 April 1926.
Elizabeth II ascended the throne on February 6, 1952 at the age of twenty-five. This year marks the seventieth anniversary of her reign.

The royal family is also a symbol of Great Britain. She performs many royal duties for her country. Heads various charitable foundations, Royals often open special events.
They help children and those in need in hospitals.
Being a member of the royal family is a very responsible and difficult job.

Sights of the United Kingdom

The Elizabeth Tower, commonly called Big Ben, is among London's most iconic landmarks. It was built in 1859. Technically, Big Ben is the name given to the massive bell inside the tower. It weighs more than 13 tons.
You can tell when parliament is in session by looking at the clock face. A special light above the clock faces is illuminated when parliament is in session.

The London Eye is a Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London.



















It is Europe's tallest observation wheel, and is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3.75 million visitors annually.

Many people who visit the Abbey want to commemorate such great men as William Shakespeare, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Robert Burns, Bernard Show, Lord Byron, Walter Scott, Geoffrey Chaucer, and many others
Westminster Abbey is the place where many outstanding Englishmen are buried, among them well-known poets, writers, scientists, statesmen, painters and many others.

Oxford University is located in the city of Oxford, and is one of Britain's oldest universities. Studying at this educational institution is very expensive and amounts to around 25,000 euros. This university holds the first and leading positions in the ranking among the prestigious and sought-after universities in the world.
Oxford University teaches in the following areas: physics, medicine, humanities, sociology, exact sciences, law, linguistics, environmental sciences.

The British are the first in the world installed phone booths on the streets of their cities. The prototypes public phone booth appeared in Britain in 1884.
Public calls" were in stores and calling on buyers was separated only by a curtain. It was uncomfortable, because the talks could be listening, and two hours. It was decided to bring the phones to the streets and put them in wooden boxes.

You can see these red double-decker buses in London. They are tall but they are not very fast. Tourists like taking these buses because they can have a nice view of the city from the upper deck.


















Black cabs are special taxis that have a lot of room for passengers and their luggage. Black cab drivers take a test of their knowledge of London, as they have to know all of the 25,000 streets within 10 km of the city centre!

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) is one of the many parks in London. They are located in the south-western suburbs of the city on the banks of the Thames between Kew and Richmond.















Kew Gardens is an amazing place for all those who love flowers and plants. They have little in common with the usual botanical gardens: there are many more plants here, many of which are known to us only from books. No wonder they are considered one of the largest botanical gardens in the world: in the gardens of Kew, you can now find over 30 thousand different varieties of living plants, including ginkgo, sequoias, Amazonian lilies

Buckingham Palace is one of the major tourist attractions in London. It is the official residency o the British monarchy. At the moment British monarchy is led by Queen Elizabeth II. Each time the royal family is in the palace, a flag flies on the roof.
The palace was built in 1705 by the Duke of Buckingham. In 1761 King George III bought this palace for his wife.
During the 19th century the house was enlarged and became the official royal residence. Queen Victoria was the first monarch to reside in the palace.

Football is the most popular sport in England. In fact, a lot of English people say it is their national sport.

















English people have played football for a very long time. However, the game didn’t have any real rules until the 19th century. In 1815, Eton College created rules to make the game less violent and later, in 1848, Cambridge University made many of the modern rules. Football quickly became as popular as other games such as cricket.
