World Famous British Names

Isaac Newton
Не was an English mathematician, physicist, astronomer and author.
When he was a child he was not a good pupil.
Now he is widely recognized as one of the greatest and most influential scientists of all time.
He discovered the law of gravity when an apple fell on his head.

James Cook
He was a naval captain, navigator and explorer who, in 1770, charted New Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef of Australia on his ship HMB Endeavour.

He was a comedic British actor who became one of the biggest stars of the 20th century's silent-film era.

He was a British military leader and statesman.
Twice named prime minister of Great Britain, he helped to defeat Nazi Germany in World War II.
In 1953, he was named the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Also, he went on to create over 500 paintings.

William Shakespeare
He is often called England's national poet.
He is considered the greatest dramatist of all time.
His works are loved throughout the world, but his personal life is shrouded in mystery.

Queen Elizabeth II
She became queen in1952.
She is the mother of Prince Charles, heir to the throne, as well as the grandmother of Princes William and Harry.
She is the longest-serving monarch in British history. She has tried to make her reign more modern and sensitive to a changing public while maintaining traditions associated with the crown.

He was a 19th-century pioneer in chemistry and physics who articulated the idea of electromagnetism.
He is already known for his innovations in optics and gas velocity research.
His groundbreaking theories around electromagnetism greatly influenced modern physics as we know it.

Agatha Christie
She was a mystery writer.
She was one of the world's top-selling authors.
She sold billions of copies of her work and was also a noted playwright and romance author.
Her works are 'Murder on the Orient Express’, ‘Ten little niggers’ and other.

Rudyard Kipling

He was born in India in 1865 and educated in England but returned to India in 1882.
He wrote The Jungle Book (1894), among a host of other works that made him hugely successful.
He was the recipient of the 1907 Nobel Prize in Literature.
He died in 1936.

Alexander Fleming

He was born in Scotland in1881.
He studied medicine, serving as a physician during World War I.
Through research and experimentation, he discovered a bacteria-destroying mold which he would call penicillin in 1928, paving the way for the use of antibiotics in modern healthcare. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1945.

Charles Darwin
He was a British naturalist and biologist known for his theory of evolution and his understanding of the process of natural selection.
In 1831, he embarked on a five-year voyage around the world on the HMS Beagle, during which time his studies of various plants and an led him to formulate his theories. In 1859, he published his landmark book, On the Origin of Species. 

John Lennon

He met Paul McCartney in 1957 and invited him to join his music group.
They eventually formed the most successful songwriting partnership in musical history.
In1980, he was killed by a crazed fan named Mark David Chapman.
