Contemporary (modern) art is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20th century or in the 21st century.
Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diversed, and technologically advancing world. Their art is a dynamic combination of materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that continue the challenging of boundaries that was already well underway in the 20th century.
Diverse and eclectic, contemporary art as a whole is distinguished by the very lack of a uniform, organising principle, ideology, or "-ism". Contemporary art is part of a cultural dialogue that concerns larger contextual frameworks such as personal and cultural identity, family, community, and nationality.
1. THE DEFINITION OF CONTEMPORARY ART
The Art of the United Kingdom refers to all forms of visual art since the formation of the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707.
During the 18th century, Britain was especially strong in portraiture and landscape art.
The Romantic period resulted from very diverse talents, including the painters William Blake, J. M. W. Turner, John Constable and Samuel Palmer.
Much Victorian art is now out of critical favour, with interest concentrated on the Pre-Raphaelites and the innovative movements at the end of the 18th century.

3.1. PETER DOIG (a Scottish painter)
Many of Doig's paintings are landscapes with a number harking back to the snowy scenes of his childhood in Canada. He draws inspiration for his figurative work from photographs, newspaper clippings, movie scenes, record album covers and the work of earlier artists like Edward Munch.

Yvonne Coomber harnesses inspiration from her many travels and homes - including time spent in her mother's homeland of Ireland, her experience living in an English horse-drawn community and her nomadic adventures in Australia and Africa. Her rainbow-drenched paintings are saturated in joy, love and plenty of magic.

3.3. Chris Forsey (an English painter)
Chris Forsey has been an illustrator and artist for nearly all of his working life, with his studio based in Dorking, Surrey.
“I am mostly interested in landscape, townscape and coastal subjects and also Still Life. The close proximity of The North Downs to my home and studio constantly inspires me and I paint and sketch this fine landscape regularly. My main preoccupation is with atmosphere, light and weather…”
