A creative hobby did not prevent Oleg from graduating from a commercial school. He entered the Harbin Polytechnic Institute. At the same time, he studied musical notation and studied to play violin. By the time Oleg returned to academic education and graduated from the Kazan State Conservatory in 1953, a mature man realized that it is necessary to have respect for music and creative work.

"Dear old Southland" impressed the young musician so much that he began to play melodies from records, It was in 1933 by the way. In a year Lundstrem created a jazz band. He himself played the piano and violin, and his brother Igor played saxophone solos. Just two years later, the musicians signed their first contract in Shanghai, despite the fact that there were already about 40 jazz bands in the city.
