I think traditional celebrations are very important in Russia. These holidays make families get together. There are holidays and celebrations we can't do without. One of the holidays is New Year's Day. In Russia it is celebrated on Deсember,31. Most people follow the tradition of buying gifts for their family members. People also buy New Year tree. This tradition came from Germany.

New Year is celebrated by most people in Russia. It’s an old tradition. It was introduced by Peter the Great in 17 century. On the New Year’s eve we usually have a party with a tasty dinner and watch TV. At ten minutes before the New Year we listen to the President's New Year speech and congratulate each other.
As for me, I love New Year. My parents and I prepare the festive dinner, decorate the tree with colorful toys and lights. Some days before we buy gifts for each other and I think it's great to give and get gifts. We get together at table sing song, dance, listen to music, play different games and just have fun and rest.
The traditional food of this day is baked turkey.
